the project

behind the instruction design process

concept

Instruction design for places and products that rely on new users every day. Rentals, motorhomes, holiday apartments, camping gear, equipment hire — anywhere a guest, renter or customer needs to understand something quickly, without asking.

Every instruction set follows a three-layer logic (the LOC system): locate shows the user where something is, operate shows what to do, and warn highlights what to avoid. The three layers work independently or combined — a single sticker for a door handle, a full card kit for a motorhome handover. The system scales to the complexity of the situation.

A second layer of modularity comes from four icon overlays — forbidden, warning, wait and checked — applied in red directly onto any icon in the library. A gas valve becomes a gas valve you must never touch. A step becomes a step you must retract. The same icon library covers instructions and warnings alike, without duplication.

how it works

Three stages, start to finish.

Design — choose your format (round sticker or card), select icons from a library of 250+, arrange your layout and preview the result in real time. No design software needed.

Production — once approved, every design is printed, laminated and finished in-house. Each piece is checked before it leaves.

Shipping — orders are packed and shipped internationally. Delivery times vary by destination and are confirmed at checkout.

i-builder is a full-service operation: design, production and shipping handled by one person. That means lower costs, direct communication and real care for every order — but also honest response times. I work through requests as fast as I can, and every order gets my full attention.

Workshop

workshop

Every order is produced by hand in a dedicated print workshop. Materials are tested and selected for durability — waterproof substrates, UV-resistant finishes, lamination for long-term surface protection. Nothing ships until it meets the standard.

Inks, laminates and protective sprays are tested across different surfaces and conditions before being used in production. The result is a finished product that holds up in real environments — vehicles, outdoor equipment, high-traffic rental spaces.

about me

Twenty years of experience creating instructions across multiple industries — product design, equipment manuals, hospitality systems, rental operations. i-builder grew directly from that work: a recurring need for clear, visual, language-independent instructions that could be produced quickly and applied anywhere.

The project sits at the intersection of communication design and physical production — from the first icon to the finished laminated card. That end-to-end perspective is what makes the difference.

The broader practice behind i-builder is documented at cristianenache.com — a studio focused on technical and conceptual illustration across architecture, product design and scientific communication. Services include concept illustration, cutaway and aerial views, user instruction design, scientific infographics and detailed product visualization. The same precision that drives that work is what i-builder is built on.
